Drag Highlights the Struggle for Acceptance
Lin k Gender and sexuality have become a large part of society and culture today. People today have become more and more ambiguous towards different forms of gender/fashion expression. The popular tv show, RuPaul's Drag Race, provides a very outgoing and exaggerated form of queer representation. Many of the queens featured on the show identify as male, and dress up in exaggerated feminine makeup with large wigs and colorful clothing. Drag is typically done as a form of entertainment, with dance routines and comedy acts. Additionally, drag has become a large part in the LGBT movement, symbolizing freedom, acceptance, and providing a form of representation, regardless of age, occupation, or sex. As drag is applicable to people of any age/gender/sexual orientation, many people who do not self identify with parts of the LGBT community can at least acknowledge drag as a fun, brave, and confident form of self-expression. (Although it may be a little PG13...) ...
