Trump Declares a national emergency to pay for border wall

Photo by: Evan Vucci/AP PhotoSummary: February 15th was when President Donald Trump  stated that the situation with having the border is a "national emergency ". By Donald Trump saying that building the wall is essential, it  gives him the opportunity to bypass Congress Constitutional powers.  It does not give him a restraint on his spending. Therefore, he tries to move the government money towards the funding of the wall. He wants to prevent immigrants  from coming to America and from them crossing the border illegally. However, congress has the chance to terminate the state of emergency trumps claims by having the support of 2/3 of lawmakers.

Reaction: It is agitating to know that the President is not helping the country at all with his ignorant choice by saying that building the border is something that has to be done as soon as possible based on his foolish reason.

History Connection: I can connect this to the Chinese Exclusion Act. Chinese laborers , both skilled and unskilled were prohibited from coming to the United States. There were many other immigrant groups that were excluded but like the immigrants today trying to cross the border illegally, the Chinese laborers did the same. They had tried to paper son/daughter system to try and make their way across the border .

Question for discussion: Do you think that building a border is necessary ? What are your thoughts about having a border, is it useful ?

    To answer the third question, I disagree with President Trump's thoughts on the building of a border being a 'national emergency'. I believe that this event shouldn't be identified as a national emergency and rather a large national task. I also do believe that the construction of the wall will deter individuals or families from engaging in illegal immigration, smuggling, and or trafficking. Although I also believe that the wall will be somewhat be ineffective, as it won't completely stop all who would try to commit the crime regardless of whether or not the border is built.

    I disagree with Trump's thoughts that the building of a border wall is a 'national emergency'. I do believe that the Congress might try to terminate this national emergency because there are other situations that the US should rather focus on. The wall might decrease the amount of crime/drugs but it will definitely not stop it 100%.

      i agree with what you are explaining. However, i think the wall is something that is going to cause more issues and more violence in the future. i think that prohibiting Mexicans and others from entering America is prohibiting them from a better lifestyle. Not all Latinos do drugs or commit crimes, its just a stereotype that some people assume.

    I think that HAVING a border is a necessary but we don't need a wall that spans half the world. We need better order control as we need to keep out people who have not achieved citizenship. Not saying that we should throw out people. We just need a border that keeps people out just like every other country in the world has one. However the way Trump has decided to voice his opinion is falsely claimed and he wants the US to pay which was never in his speeches until now. Building a wall is not national emergency, there are other things like poverty and people who are malnourished in the United States. We need to think of the bigger picture.
