The democratic party has strongly been opposed to his plea. However today in the senate both parties pushed for the governments reopening and both were dejected before being pushed to the final phase. Where a mere one democrat voted for the republican bill while six republicans voted for the democratic bill. In the end Trump continues to push for the funding of the wall and it's stated that the wall would cost over $7 billion. Connection: Similar to right now, in 1995 the government shut down during  Clinton's term. Currently its the democratic party against a republican president however in 1995 it was a republican congress and a democratic president fighting over funding for public heath, medicare, education, and the environment in the 1996 federal budget.
