Summery: Trump stated he wanted to end humanitarian protections for many immigrants and end programs that protect immigrant workers. The Temporary Protected Status (TPS), it protects over 260,000 immigrants from the Central America to lawfully live and work in the U.S. and, recently, it was almost shut down. Without TPS, immigrants wouldn't be able to work and would face deportation. Crista Ramos is a 14-year-old high school freshman from San Francisco, California, that is a lot like us, however, she is a proud supporter of the TPS and speaks up for protection of TPS because it keeps her family together and safe. Recently, she became a voice that advocates for TPS and had become s "the lead plaintiff in an important class-action lawsuit." she states, "I think about how there's other kids who are maybe too scared to speak up," she said, referring to the estimated 273,000 U.S.-citizen children who have at least one parent with TPS. "So I chose to help them, and be the voice of all the kids who are going through the same thing." Crista speaks for the people that face deportation and has already helped temporally block the government from ending TPS. She has traveled all the way to Rome and even spoke with the Pope to spread her goal: "My goal is to keep my family and the other families together," she said. "So that me and my brother and the other kids in these families can go on with our life, and education and plans."
History connection: Throughout history, groups of people have been discriminated against and certain leaders have risen as human rights activists. Similarly to Crista Ramos being an advocate of the preservation of her life and El Salvadorian Roots in California, A Phillip Randolph was the leading African American figure in the labor movement during World War II to fight for African American civil rights to give African Americans and minorities equal and fair working opportunists. He was the first ever to form the first predominantly African American Labor union. He helped establish that anymore can contribute to American industries, regardless of their racial or ethnic background.
Questions: Why do you think Trump wants to end programs like TPS? Do you think that ending these programs that protect immigrants is justifiable? Why is the conservation of TSA so important?
I think that ending the TPS is only justifiable if it is replaced by another program that continues to protect immigrants in order to keep their families together. The conservation of TSA is so important because it allows families to stay together, which should be a right that is protected. Without it, it separates some children from their parents, which no child should ever have to experience, as it is traumatic.
ReplyDeleteI agree with both of these comments. It is justifiable that this program should be conserved because it keeps families together and is part of what our nation stands for.
DeleteI agree, a program that keeps people together and safe should not be gotten rid of unless it is replaced with a better and/or reformed program that continues to advocate for the safety of American people or immigrants wishing to become citizens. Programs such as these keep families together and working. These working people are essential to the balance of society and business.
DeleteI think that the TPS program is a program that shouldn't be shut down. It helps many immigrants find better opportunities for themselves and to provide for their families . The ending of the TPS program is not justifiable because it helps keep families together and it helps them live and work in the U.S. If the program would end, it would tear apart families and separate the children from their parents .
ReplyDeleteI think that Trump wants to end the program from the fear and hatred he has towards immigrants due to how much he talks bad about them. I believe ending these programs that protect immigrants is not justifiable because it has helped so many of them by providing them protection and jobs.
ReplyDeleteI think ending the TPS program would be a huge mistake. It has helped the lives of so many people by allowing them to find safety in the United States. Ending these programs would mean many people being deported back to their home countries, often to countries that are still not safe today. I really hope the US does not end these programs as it is in the best interest of many to keep them around.
