Is the shutdown (almost) over?

Summary: Due to Trump's request for $5 billion to fund the building of his wall. The democratic party has strongly been opposed to his plea. However today in the senate both parties pushed for the governments reopening and both were dejected before being pushed to the final phase. Where a mere one democrat voted for the republican bill while six republicans voted for the democratic bill. In the end Trump continues to push for the funding of the wall and it's stated that the wall would cost over $7 billion.

Connection: Similar to right now, in 1995 the government shut down during  Clinton's term. Currently its the democratic party against a republican president however in 1995 it was a republican congress and a democratic president fighting over funding for public heath, medicare, education, and the environment in the 1996 federal budget.

Questions: What would be the potential consequences of the government being shut down for so long? Should the government give Trump the money to build his wall?

Comments

  1. The potential consequences of the government being shutdown for so long is that many of the workers are being starved for money and food. They are unable to pay their bills and the effects of not being able to have a working government that s able to work things out verbally. Trump should never be given any type, and speaking of any President should not be given money to full-fill false claims. Trump should be focusing on issues other than building a wall. yes we need reformations on Immigration but to a BIG wall.

  2. The potential consequences of the government being shutdown is that workers are not making money resulting in struggling at home. National Parks are not being maintained which can cause problems for nature. In this situation Trump is a genius. He has cornered the government so that the only way to get the government up and running again is to give Trump the money he wants.

  3. The potential consequences of the government being shutdown for a long time is that the workers who work for the government aren't getting paid. Therefore, their families that they are providing for are staving and the normal necessities that they usually pay for also had to stop. For example, the electricity bill, the water bill, etc. are important for a daily life in which they aren't getting what they need.

  4. Unfortunately, I think that the American people have had to go through a period of really frustrating idiocracy in order to not blow $7 billion on an ineffective wall. A president should not be allowed to put what is meant to be a Democratic decision at the expense of American lives. The people, especially the working class, rely on their work in order to get by, and due to the fact that Trump does not understand how devastating his actions are here, its affecting people more. The working class rely on paychecks in order to live their daily lives, and without this the balance of government and society will be off. Its good though that people were able to withhold from giving in, as a wall could be a potential worse decision.

  5. The government shut down is affecting many people and its hurting them financially. The people that work for the government are not getting paid and since they aren't they can't provide for themselves, nor their family. Its sad to see these people struggling to make ends meet or to get by for the week. The president needs to stop being ignorant and understand the consequences of his unintelligent decisions. Him trying to build the wall is foolish and meaningless.
